Ozzy Osbourne (1948–2025): The End of an Era in Heavy Metal

John Michael Oxzzy Osbourne, commonly referred to by the mononym Ozzy, died on 22 July 2025, at the age of 76, in England, which was the country of his birth and the place that he believed was his home as he passed away in peace, with his family around him.

In a brief statement heartbreakingly bereft of words, Sharon Osbourne and their four children—Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis—revealed the family’s overwhelming sorrow:

With a heavier heart than any language can accurately describe, we have to report that the legend Oszy Osbourne is no more as he passed this morning. He was surrounded by the people he loved, and he gave up with a lot of love. We humbly ask all people to give our family the privacy that is needed at the time.

Curtain Call: His Final Performance

Ozzy performed a historic final concert with the original Black Sabbath line-up of Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward on 5 July 2025 at Villa Park in Birmingham. Considered as a heartening testament to the birth of heavy metal, the show dubbed as Back to the Beginning attracted 42,000 fans and was graced with legendary performances by Metallica, Guns n Roses, Slayer, and Alice in Chains.

Stricken by advanced Parkinson’s disease, Ozzy performed while seated on a specially crafted throne, his voice undiminished. He told the crowd: “You’ve no idea how I feel—thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

That unforgettable night wasn’t just a concert—it was a grand final bow. An official film titled Back to the Beginning: Ozzy’s Final Bow is slated for theatrical release in early 2026, followed by DVD/Blu-ray editions
